Tell me about you

When I blogged on Xanga, I found that meeting new bloggers was super-easy. The whole way the community was set up made hopping from one person’s site to another simple. Now, I find it totally cumbersome to make my way around the internet to find everyone’s blog, and get to know them. I tweet with many of you, but don’t necessarily know your blogs. I’d love to have a cool roster of blogs to flip through.

So I’m being very lazy and asking everyone in the entire universe to leave their blog URL here and tell me what I need to know about you most. Anything. Anything at all. Just tell me something about yourself.

Because hey, my kids will be in school this September and I’ll be needing something to keep me from doing the things I really should be doing.

  1. Find me at naturalurbanmamas.com

I am a hardcore Survivor fan. I have never missed a season… EVER. I am terrible at remembering people’s names and it makes me seem like a total bitch, I am not, I am just terribly forgetful.

    1. GET OUT. I never would’ve pegged you as a Survivor fan. I’ve never seen an episode, ever.

      1. Never missed a season, huh? Have you met any of the contestants? Over here. Went to a fundraiser and have the pics to prove it! I even own a buff. Total reality show loser, I am! lol.

  2. Not sure what to say about myself that you don’t already know. I’m an artist (maker of wooden bowls and pepper mills), a father of two girls, and a soon-to-be-divorcee who is trying to rediscover himself. Also…

I believe Darth Vader is the baddest bad-ass that there ever was,

I know Gandalf is my favourite literary character ever,

I really like peanut butter and jam sandwiches,

I have one less bodily organ than I started with (my appendix. Git yer head outta the gutter!),

I know there is a god and his name is Jimmy Page,

I once had 18 stitches in my face and consequently lost my taste for extreme sports.

    1. Awesome facts, Steve. I like peanut butter & jam, too. But we’ve had to switch to a pb replacement since Mason is allergic. Still love it, though.

  3. I work too much and too many identities.
    I’m in over my head.
And the internet is like the only way I’m really socially comfortable.
And I’m your Disney Vacation Specialist in my alter ego.

      1. Scuba diving is something on my bucket list. If I had a bucket list. My dad was a diver for more than 50 years, till he had ear surgery and had to stop. I SO BADLY wanted to dive with him one day.

  4. I’m positive to a fault, and in constant motion. But for all my puttering my house is a mess. I believe in always getting back up again, and that there is always something to look forward to. My kids are my heartbeat and my newly resurrected marriage is something I’m proud of. I daydream epic sagas and cry happy tears more often than sad. I love maple fudge and donuts, shoes, bargains, and writing. And this idea of yours, too. Neat!

    1. I LOVE this response!

How did you manage to resurrect your marriage? I’d like to hear that story.

  5. You probably already have them, but my author site is http://cynthiahillbooks.com and my place for all other ranting is http://cynforpm.blogspot.ca

About me? I studied theatre, and thought I’d have an Oscar by now, but instead got married, had 4 kids, did lots of community theatre. I released my first book last year, and my second should be coming out any day (if the paperback proof copy would ever arrive!)

  6. I used to be online ALL THE TIME; now not so much…I’m an introvert/extrovert…is there such a thing?? I love being with my friends but need my alone time, I am such a lazy friend though…it takes days to return emails and phone calls…there that makes me sound like a great person no? 🙂 I have two kids and am going back to work this September after being off for 20 months…right now that’s all that’s on my mind 🙂

    1. What are you going back to work to do?

And yeah! There are TOTALLY introverted extroverts. Sliding scale, and all that. 🙂

  7. I don’t think I’m a very interesting person. I don’t speak much unless I feel I have something really important to say. Some other somewhat interesting facts about me:
    1. I was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of four.
    2. I have been with the same man since I was 15 years old.
    3. My son has autism. And my daughter is an amazing artist.
    4. I’m very giving and volunteer as much as I can.
    5. I stay to myself until I get to know you but then watch out!
    6. I’m the only person in my family to graduate from college.
That pretty much sums up my life! Now I have nothing to talk about!

    1. I think you are a very fascinating person, Corrie! Just because you don’t talk someone’s ear off doesn’t mean you’re not interesting. And I totally adore your littles. We should go to the zoo again soon!

  8. My name is Leanne and I’m the overnight writer at Canada AM. I am turning 40 in 9 days. I’ve been blogging about that and about losing weight and getting healthy.

I like that people think I am funny. I’d rather be funny than pretty, although if you said I was pretty I’d probably like that too. Who am I kidding? I’d probably hump the first guy who told me I was pretty. Actually, that was years ago… and I did. Now I’m having flashbacks…

  9. You’re pretty. You’re more than pretty, actually. You’re gorgeous and you’re smart and funny. Clearly we cannot be friends. 😉

  10. I blerg at First Home Dreams about renovating an 1899 brick farmhouse. We’re slow, and it’s more anecdotal than technical.

I like all things old, animal, and science.

I’m cranky a lot, and have been known to over indulge in adult beverages more often than not.

    1. You know, I’ve never actually read your blog, but now that I know what it’s about, I’m going to!

  11. hmmmm. i read all these:). good idea miss alex – but you are full of them:).

i am angela. i take photos, lots of photos. i have three great kids ( well, great most of the time ) and a husband who still likes me after many, many, many years. i also have dogs, which means i always have a solid excuse for my floors being dirty. i have been at home forever but learned the importance of always finding time to do something i love, or i wilt. and get impatient. and cranky. and being cranky sucks.

  12. Hi, Alex! It’s 5 foot nothing @Dawnbheag from your twitter feed.
I’m not a “regular” blogger. I blog when something peaks my interest or pisses me off and I feel I have to get it off my chest. (Hence, the reason why so many are in draft form on my dashboard!)

What do you need to know about me? I’m a mom to 2, DD is almost 7, DS will be 4 in Feb. Been with/married to my DH for almost half my life! We live in a rural area and wouldn’t change it for the world.

I’m a teacher. I blog a lot as a teacher and enjoy exposing my rural little students to the wonders of interactions through twitter and blogs.

I tweet a lot. I tweet about random thoughts, ideas throughout my day.

And… I really enjoy your blog and tweets 😉 (Totally not intended as a kiss-arse statement!!! LOL)

  13. I’m a mom of two amazing, witty, fun boys. I am the wife of a tall man.
I shouldn’t be able to walk, so I run. In just over a month, I’ll run my first marathon, while raising money for Leukemia & Lymphoma research.
    I play flute.
My husband is a survivor of mental illness, so I guess that means I am too.

I LOVE Chai Tea Lattes. I have 3 part time jobs. I have four tattoos, each with special meaning.

I believe that happiness is a choice.

I love doing crazy, fun things. I love to make people laugh. I love practical jokes.

    1. I LOVE these.

How come you’re not supposed to be able to walk? What illness did your husband have?

      1. I was in a car accident 21 years ago. Long story short, I spent a lot of time in crutches or a cane and wearing a foot brace. “they” estimated I’d be in a wheelchair by my mid-30s. “they” were wrong.

My husband battles depression and anxiety.

      2. That’s amazing, Jessica. That you walk, I mean.

Ugh, depression and anxiety are horrid. For all involved. I know this.

  14. My name is melissa and I’m perfectly ordinary. ;P

I’ve blogged under several domains, and remember when blogs didn’t have comments. I blogged for a while at the now defunct Vox.com (made by the same people as Typepad) and the community aspect sounds a lot like Xanga – it was easy to find interesting people there.

I have one daughter who turns four in less than a month. I married my highschool sweetheart in 2004 after eight years together.

I lurk online far more than I participate. I’m working on that. I’ve met so many great people here (both virtually and in-person).

I recently moved to the suburbs after almost a decade in Toronto. Alex, we really need to get together sometime face-to-face, since we live so close to each other. 🙂

    1. Honestly, we live mere minutes apart. Sure, we may be introverts, but that’s not a good excuse. Let me know when you’re free and we’ll grab coffee or something!

  15. I’m a mom of two adorable, genius children and wife to my university sweetheart.

I’m a champion shopper, but haven’t had time to practice my sport since the kids were born.

I’m a nail-biter, despite many attempts to quit.

I also adore junk food (despite many attempts to quit).

I’m a die-hard Mac fan; my iPhone is my lifeline.

My guilty (viewing) pleasures are Fashion Police, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (but none of the other franchises!), and all of the Tori & Dean reality series.

I love the music of Blue Rodeo.

I hate the Olympics. (Always have)

  16. My name is Jennifer Banks. I know 4 other Jennifer Banks’, but I think I’m the coolest.

I’m a mom, internet marketer and geek.

I like people who make me laugh and inspire me to be a better person. I dislike whiners and people who complain just to complain.

I’m a glass half full type of girl.

I have a lot of tattoos, but I’m actually really traditional in a lot of my beliefs.

My favorite color is leopard print.

    I write at http://www.techmommy.ca and http://www.makejensday.com

Mostly, I have a girl crush on you Alex 🙂

  17. I am over at http://ThatMomBlog.com. I love to blog, but am too forgetful, and disorganized most of the time to do so. I am stupidly shy, but trying to get over it. I put up an ‘I don’t care what you think about my hair and tattoos’ attitude, but secretly I am terrified and always feel like I am being judged and DO care. I am working on that too.
I went to school for small business management and dropped out within 2 weeks of starting – I now run 3 of my own businesses.
I bought my house when I was 21 years old. Its not in a good neighborhood, but it’s mine, and it’s home.
I have lost 50lbs this year, and plan to loose another 50lbs by next summer. Once I do that, I am going to do some crazy extreme sport like sky dive.

That’s all the random facts I can muster up right now 🙂

Ps. I think you are all sorts of awesome.

    1. Holy crap, Karen! That weightloss is amazing! I wish I had the motivation to do so.

I happen to think YOU are a whole pile of awesome. You’re amazing.

  18. To use the ‘questionnaire’ from Bouillon de Culture – a French program about writing / literature / culture and life…

    1. favourite word: Mom

    2. least favourite word: Mom (said with whiny Caillou-like voice)

    3. favourite drug: wine… wine, wine and more wine

    4. what sound or noise do you love: my daughter’s laugh. I know: yawn. But there is something so innocent in it still that I find completely captivating.

    5. what sound or noise do you hate: the whiny Caillou-like voice

    6. favourite swear word: that changes, but right now, I’m favouring “Fuckity Fuck Fuck”. Unless I’m with Boo. Then I use Merde. Because even if she tries to repeat it, not too many around us will know what she is saying!

    7. who would you like to see on a new currency bill: Hilary Clinton. The woman rocks. She should have been president.

    8. what profession would you not want to do practice: I wouldn’t want to be a criminal defense lawyer. I wouldn’t be able to credibly stand up and defend someone I KNEW was guilty. Could. Not. Do. It.

    9. what plant, tree or animal would you like to be reincarnated as: Weeping Willow… SO me, as a tree.

    10. if God exists, what would like her to say when you arrive at the pearly gates: ‘Psych!’

  19. Hi, my name is Sarah and my blog is neglected. It was decent at one time and I keep it around because I can’t bear to let it go…and I post occassional crap now.

I’m not married in the traditional sense and am not sure we’ll ever bother with a wedding or a marriage certificate.

I have 2 kids (out of wedlock) *collective gasp*

I dropped out of HS and the principal told me I’d amount to nothing. A few years late I had my diploma and my degree. Asshole.

I swear a LOT in person, but hardly ever online.

I lived out of my car once for awhile ’cause I was living across the country and too independent (and stubborn) to accept help from my parents.

    I’ll leave the rest a mystery…for now.

  20. I could swear I’d left a comment already. Very strange!

Anyway, I’m Cyn, and my blogs are http://cynthiahillbooks.com and http://cynforpm.blogspot.ca They’re both quite neglected, although lately, since I’m about to publish my second book, my author site is getting a bit more attention. I’ll never be a very good “regular” blogger, though. I spend too much time on other writing projects, my “real” job, my 4 kids, and occasionally I even pay attention to my husband!

I went to school for theatre, and Rachel McAdams was a year behind me. I even sat in on her audition. After that day, I don’t ever remember seeing her again, although I’m told she was there. I’m bitter – in a MOSTLY ironic sense 😉 Until recently, I indulged my love of acting on the community theatre level, but between work and kids’ schedules, it’s been over a year since I’ve done a show now 🙁

So, um… yeah. That’s me, in a few paragraphs 🙂

    1. You did! It got stuck in spam. 🙂

I love that you act. That’s something I’d never be able to do. Will you actively get back to it when you have more time?

      1. I’d like to. I miss it a lot. But as the kids get older, and busier, I wonder how scheduling would work. I always found it was good for my sanity when I was a SAHM, because it guaranteed I would leave the house kid-free at least a couple of times a week 🙂

  21. My name is April. I’m the run-on-sentence writing genius at thismomsgotsomethingtosay.com I’m a foster parent and I own 2 online stores. I hate exercising and love fast food … which may explain why I need to lose weight. I love all reality TV, except Jersey Shore, because really, that is that about?? I’ve never seen any of the Harry Potter, Twilight or Lord of the Rings movies and have no desire to do so. I’m very laid back, and don’t take life all that seriously. There’s way too much good stuff to laugh about.

  22. Ok I gotta join in on the fun.
    Hi! I’m Nat.
I make tutus for wee ones. I just completed my first half-marathon. I like the simple things. I’m aiming for minimalism. And I believe that happiness is a choice.
O and I blog at http://natnanton.com about self-development, fitness, and creativity for mamas.

    (P.S. I love this idea!)
    xo

  23. I’m so impressed with all the comments you got and am totally using this to find new blogs to read!

I’m @lifeofk on Twitter. I’ve been blogging for over 8 years now and wish I was better. I’m the introverted extrovert who likes to talk about herself but is much better at it online than in person. But really, I like blogging to document my life more than anything else.

I’m left handed and clumsy and need a hair cut. Random.
