And once you’re feeling energetic, here are some easy tips for perking up your place for spring from my friends at Church & Dwight:

Make Doormats Welcoming – They’re the front line against tracking in dirt, so keep them clean enough to function efficiently. If they’re extremely soiled, soak them in warm water mixed with a scoop of OxiClean™ Versatile Stain Remover for six hours then wash as directed – even the toughest stains get washed away! Remember to always follow manufacturers care instructions.

WIN with IDontBlog.ca and Church & Dwight!

• Organizing Closets – Organizing your closet is the first step to organizing the rest of your home. Donate unused clothes and accessories, and declutter! For the clothes that you do keep, ensure they are crisp for the new season ahead by laundering with OxiClean™ Liquid Laundry Detergent. It attacks dirt and tough stains left by Old Man Winter, and will leave them smelling spring fresh.

• Make your Dishes Shine – With the arrival of the new season comes the arrival of home dinner parties! Ensure your dish and glass wares are guest ready by using OxiClean™ Extreme Power Crystals™ Dishwasher Detergent Paks to tackle tough stains and stuck-on-foods. The best part? No more pre-washing or re-washing necessary so you’ll have time to relax after the party.

• Carpet Cleaning – Fabrics that have absorbed a winter’s worth of dirt will need a deep clean to get them ready for another year of wear. Shampooing your carpets is a good start, but for tougher stains, use OxiClean™ Versatile Stain Remover – simply mix a little bit of the stain remover with warm water as per the instructions on the label and blot with a clean towel until the stain disappears. Always rinse thoroughly with clean water.

• Patio Season – While it may still be cold, you can start thinking of the warmer weather and spruce up of your patio. Remove any large debris such as sticks, branches, and leaves by hand. Next use the sprayer setting on your garden hose to wash away as much of the winter dirt and grime as possible. Tackle stains left on outdoor furniture upholstery with OxiClean™ Versatile Stain Remover – it’s chlorine free and colour safe so you can use it on gutters and unfinished decks, too!

To win the gift basket pictured above, just leave a comment below telling me your best house-cleaning tip.

One winner will be chosen at random on March 31, 2015 at noon, EDT. Open to residents of Canada only. No cash value, no substitutions. Prize will be shipped from Church & Dwight.

Disclosure: I am a brand ambassador for Church & Dwight, and as such, will share sponsored content throughout the year with my readers. I do, however, also use these products and the opinions are my own.

  1. hahahaha house cleaning tip 😉

ok fine. Bins and baskets to help keep organized are one of my best tips!

  2. My best housecleaning tip would be to clean as you go. My husband cooks but never cleans as he’s cooking and it makes me crazy! lol

  3. My best housecleaning tip is to find a good housecleaner who can supplement whatever pathetic cleaning you already do. I’m not good at things..

  4. My tip is to ditch all the bad chemicals and make your own cleaning products. It saves you a ton of money too!

  5. My tip is to make my own vinegar, water and lemon mixture. Put In a spray bottle. 2 towels under my feet and 2 towels under my sons feet and we have the best game ever. Who can clean up their spray spots the fastest!!!! 🙂 it’s not child Labour right? Lol

  6. My best cleaning tip it’s to have a stay at home husband who cleans up after all my messes.

But if that’s not possible, I also like jamming citrus peels into old glass jars (because I can’t toss a spaghetti sauce or apple sauce jar for the life of me), covering them with vinegar, adding herbs or cinnamon sticks if I’m feeling really ambitious, and letting them steep for a few weeks to make some pretty smelling vinegar for cleaning. It’s also pretty effective at keeping raccoons out of the green bin.

  7. Pick one room a day and don’t do more than that. You won’t get worn out and the house will be clean in a week!

  8. I make sure the dishes are done by the end of the night… it makes it SO much easier the next morning.

    1. All comments were numbered, and random.org used to generate a winning number… your comment corresponded, Lisa, you win this gift basket!

  9. I know it’s just little but cleaning the blender by adding hot water and soap and blending for a few seconds has saved this smoothie maker a TON of time.

  10. I could say lots of different things but I never follow them lol. I should do laundry daily (but I don’t) and I should clean as I go (but I don’t) and I shouldn’t pile everything up in the basement so that come spring time we can barely walk down there (but I pile everything up anyways).

  11. To clean the microwave put a bowl of lemon water in it and heat it up in there, then wipe the inside of the microwave everything comes off so easily

  12. To get rid of cat and dog hair I put on wet rubber dishwashing gloves and wipe my hands over the furniture. The hair sticks right to it.

  13. my best tip – I use newspaper and windex to clean mirrors and windows -its Ecologically friendly and economically friendly

  14. My tip is to make your own glass cleaner by combining water and vinegar in a spray bottle. It works great for windows, mirrors and glass surfaces.

  15. never let clutter pile up get rid of unused or unwanted items, always do the dishes after dinner and do not let laundry pile up do a load when yu have enough and take them out of the dryer right away and put them away- big pet peeve of mine I hate going to someones house when you see a huge pile of clean laundry on their bed or sofa- it only takes a few minute to fold them

  16. So many things… the best time saver cleaning tip was to clean the bathroom while my kiddos were in the bath (when they were old enough to be in there without me holding them). Now that they are even older, I put away clean laundry while they are in the bath – popping in and chatting with them the entire time. It’s great!!

  17. my tip is not to let clutter collect – but reduce, reuse, recycle items that come into the home

  18. I like to declutter. When I buy new clothes I go through my closet and donate items that are not being used.
