#ShowMeYourBrave: Oh, You Are Courageous
Every day, stories pour in for the #ShowMeYourBrave project. Some will break your heart, and others will make you laugh. The one string that snakes through each and every single story is that they’ll leave you inspired.
There’s no end to the courage of human beings. Each day, we face challenges that test our strength and resilience. Sometimes those challenges feel insurmountable, but here we all are.
These are just single lines from a number of submissions that demonstrate the quiet strength of people. These are the people you know. This is your father, your sister, your best friend. Your husband, your child, the neighbour. Your mom, your grandma, your teacher. The universality of the challenges is what makes Show Me Your Brave so special, I think.
What was the bravest, scariest, or most intimidating thing you’ve ever done?
“Trying to get pregnant again after two miscarriages.”
“Homeschooling my children.”
“Leaving the hospital with my newborn left behind in the NICU.”
“The Tough Mudder obstacle course.”
“Realizing I was better off divorced.”
“Ziplining in B.C.”
“Participating in a half marathon.”
“Writing my book and getting it published.”
“Burying my son.”
“Asking my mother to move out.”
“Holding my mother’s hand as she took her last breath.”
“I hit him back.”
“I took my 6, 4, and 10 month old children to their father’s funeral.”
“Confessing to cheating on my husband.”
Oh, you are courageous.
You are strong, and you are brave.
And I am ever so honoured you have chosen to share your stories, and read the stories of others.
The #ShowMeYourBrave Project asks people, “What’s the bravest, scariest, or most intimidating thing you’ve ever done?”. The idea of the project is to share stories of everyday bravery and human resilience to bring us closer together. In sharing, we not only find our voices, but we find support, allies, and others who have faced similar challenges. If you would like to submit your story, we would love to feature your bravery here.
