You know I don’t usually cover this kind of thing here, so the fact that I am writing about it means I was impressed. I went to the grand opening of Winchester Dental in Brooklin, Ontario and was surprised by how warm and welcoming it felt. Not your typical clinical dentist’s office, that’s for sure. Dr. Catherine Hong, DDS has opened a unique dental office that I’m positive the community of Brooklin will love.
Now, when I was about eight years old, my mom had a really terrible tooth. No dentist could find it, but she was in agony. Even specialists were stumped, telling her it must be psychological, but she knew it was real pain. One day, as she sat at her sister’s house in Toronto, she decided enough was enough. She flipped through the yellow pages (ha, I’m a dinosaur!) and took the first dentist with a surname starting with “A” and began there. And you know what? That very first dentist found the problem, and she’s been a patient of his ever since. She and my father still travel from Newfoundland to see him, so you know he’s great. When we moved, we continued going to the practice (although it’s his son who runs the one we go to now), despite it being really inconvenient to go there. It’s a half hour away, appointments aren’t easy to schedule, and nobody likes sitting in the office for three hours while we all have cleanings. So venturing to a new dental office felt weird after being at the same one for over 30 years, but. . .
Winchester Dental, I am so impressed!
I walked in, and was greeted warmly by staff in a stunning waiting area, complete with charging stations (including USB ports) so patients can work or play while they wait. It’s a comfortable place to be, with none of the typical dental office decor. It’s modern, welcoming, and pleasant. (And none of that “dentists’ office smell”!) Did I mention modern? It’s everything you want in a dental office — super clean, but not typically clinical. It’s just so comfortable!
Dr. Hong is very friendly, informative and open. It was a pleasure speaking to her, and hearing all about this brand new practice.
Comfort doesn’t end in the waiting area — each patient room is equipped with beautiful, comfortable chairs, and the latest dental equipment including low-radiation x-rays, which make me feel happier as a mom in particular.
Also, can we talk about the TVs in each exam room? And on the ceiling, too?! Patients can watch whatever they want, ensuring they’re entertained/distracted effectively.
Conveniently, Dr. Hong offers almost every dental service in one practice: dental surgery, family dentistry (including catering to the needs of infants of children), dental implants, sedation dentistry and dentures to endodontics (root canals) and treatments for periodontal concerns. (Orthodontics are in her future, too, which would be super convenient since I suspect our daughter will be needing braces in a few years.) No need to be referred to a bunch of different specialists!
If you’re in the Brooklin or Whitby area, I really recommend you check out Winchester Dental. You’ll be just as impressed as I am, I bet. Take a peek at them on Facebook — Dr. Hong is definitely not your average dentist.
All the best wishes to Dr. Hong and her wonderful staff as they build this fantastic new Brooklin business!
Disclosure: I was compensated to attend the grand opening celebration and write this post, but as always, the opinions are truthful and are my own. You’ll probably see my family at Dr. Hong’s office next time we need check ups!
