How #TreatsForToys Brings Smiles This Season

For the third year in a row, Rice Krispies and the Salvation Army are partnering to bring less fortunate kids some smiles this holiday season. The #TreatsForToys campaign is underway again, and by participating in a fun family activity, you can make a big difference, too!
Every Christmas, we take the time to feel extra thankful for all that we have in our family. We’re thankful for one another, for our friends and extended family, for our safety and yes, even our material goods. We are so lucky, and we know that. It’s especially important to me that my kids understand this, too, and that they know that many others are not so fortunate. We donate to charities and toy drives, and my daughter will be selling hair ties to raise funds for the Wyatt’s Warriors SickKids Toy Drive this year. Being able to give back, and to provide some comfort to those with less, is a very large blessing.
Rice Krispies is giving back, too. And if you participate, you’ll be helping them provide toys to kids who may not have anything this holiday season.
It’s easy! Just make a Rice Krispies treat “toy”, share it via social media (Twitter, Instagram) using the #TreatsForToys hashtag, and upload it the #TreatsForToys website, and for every image shared until December 21, 2015, Rice Krispies will donate $20 to the Salvation Army to go towards new toys for kids.
We had a lot of fun making our Rice Krispies robots, I have to admit. (But my favourite part was eating them, I’m not gonna lie.) The activity gave us a chance to casually talk about how important it is to give back to our wider community, and to reflect on how lucky we are to be able to do this kind of thing.
Not sure our toy robot friend had quite as much fun. Doesn’t he look terrified of that Transformer chasing him?
