Small Joys Blog

Welcome to this week’s #BlogSmallJoys submission, sent in by Bob Minhas. Bob’s the president of AlphaStarr Technical Solutions, and has worked within technology in one form or another for 14 years. He has spent time developing his craft working with major telcom providers in Voice, Data and Broadcast. But more than this, he’s a really great guy with a wonderful sense of humour, and a way of making everyone feel like the most important person in the room.

#BlogSmallJoysIt’s amazing to me how busy we can get. Have you ever driven somewhere and can’t remember the drive itself? Or even forgotten what day of the week it is? My favourite is having trouble remembering what I did in a day when someone asks me at the end of it.

We’re a make busy society today. We’re SO bombarded with stimuli that when we stop to smell anything … let alone the roses … we feel guilty.

However, if we fail to enjoy those moments of life that are so amazing, so difficult to verbalize … we’ll lose the ability to develop memories to share with our friends and our loved ones.

As an Entrepreneur, Father, and avid Shit Disturber … its can sometimes be hard to find these moments. But I do.

Whenever I’m taking a trip somewhere I load up Songza on my phone and tie it to my car speakers. Load my favourite playlist (90’s crowd pleasing hits) and sing so loud that sometimes people in the lane next to me can hear me … windows closed and all. Backstreet Boys, Tupac, Lisa Loeb and even some Michael Jackson by the end of the trip I’ve usually without voice and a HUGE smile on my face.

I discovered this trend when I came across a quote from Confucius from “The Book of Rites” which read as “Music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without.”

I love this little miracle because no matter the time of day or season of the year … you can take part. I dare you to try it and not smile.

  1. Oh my goodness! Hi! *waves* We could very well be great friends! If I was in the car next to you I would totally join in! 😀

    Love this!

Music fixes pretty much everything (at least for a little while).

    Beautiful post!

  2. One of my favourite parts of Blissdom is the drive down with the latest playlist on and nobody to hear when I crack on the high notes.
