**CLOSED** Netflix + Roku GIVEAWAY! (sponsored)

My plans for Father’s Day went slightly pear-shaped when the guitar school called to discuss the lessons the kids were giving him while Ryan was in the car with me. There went that surprise. Then, we were rained out of our other plans for Sunday. Sigh. If your day went similarly, fear not! I’ve got a giveaway that’ll make it up for ya.

How does a one-year subscription to Netflix Canada, and a Roku streaming device sound? That’s a prize worth ~$200!

Roku and Sub ImageYou probably know by now that our family cut out cable awhile ago. We were spending hundreds a month to access the few channels we really wanted, and it was just money down the drain. We had to order far more channels than we ever wanted, just to get the ones we did want, and invested in purchasing an HD PVR because commercials? No thanks. So we bid adieu and haven’t looked back.

But even without that spendy cable bill, we watch all the same shows we’ve always loved, and more! You can read about how we save $700 a year over on my husband’s blog.

With great stuff for my hubs (like Friday Night Lights, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, and more), and my faves, too (12 Monkeys!), in addition to all the great kids’ content, Netflix is our go-to for shows now. Also, really, need I say more than this: Arrested Development. House of Cards. So, so, so worth it. If you’ve been debating the jump, now’s your chance to give it all a try for free!

Here’s how to enter:

a Rafflecopter giveaway

DISCLAIMER: As compensation for this post, I was given the opportunity to offer up the prize(s) only. As a huge fan of Netflix already, I thought long and hard about whether it was worth offering this one up with no real benefit to myself, but I think you’ll all really love it, so here we are. 🙂 Good luck, everyone!

You have to answer the question to enter. 🙂

  1. Denise D

Heathcliff Huxtable, favourite TV dad, hands down!

  2. Tammi

There are so many great TV dads. I think I’d have to say Tim “the Toolman” Taylor just because he had such a child-like quality about him – always striving to be better at whatever he endeavoured while making mistakes along the way that provided valuable lessons he could share with his family.

    • alexandria

I have to admit, I always hated him. LOL

      • Tammi

        Well that’s when I was a kid…now I’d pick Hank Moody from Californication 😉

  3. Laurie P

I’d have to agree with Heathcliff Huxtable!!

    • alexandria

I think my fave is Phil on Modern Family.

  4. Kim Dougherty

Definatly the Cosby Show dad!! Even when he was saying no, he did it with style!! 🙂

  5. Erin

I love Steve Martin in the Father of the Bride movies!

  6. Christy

Heathcliffe Huxtable was the first one to come to my mind too, lol!

    • alexandria

Ooo, yeah! I forgot about how awesome his character is in that movie. So fantastic!

    • alexandria

I was never really a fan of that show, I think I was maybe too old for it?

  7. Steph

    Heathcliffe Huxtible hands down!

    Entering for my dad.

  8. Lisa @BlueRaveFinn

We really need to cut the cable bills! This would be awesome. 🙂 Our DVR doesn’t work properly either.

    • alexandria

I always felt like it was such a huge waste of money. Paying SO much for all the channels, just to get content on MAYBE 8 channels we used was ridiculous.

  9. Lisa @BlueRaveFinn

    Oops, clicked submit too soon.

My favourite TV dad….hmmm. Richard Castle!!! Who wouldn’t love Nathan Fillion for a dad. 😉
Or whatever movies Hugh Jackman has played a dad in…there have been several. 😮

    • alexandria

I don’t even know who Richard Castle is!

    • Laura

Love Richard Castle… mostly because his “daughter” turned out so amazing.

  10. Mary MM

Favourite TV Dad… George Jetson. Or maybe Dick Van Patten from Eight is Enough.

  11. Debbie

I’m going to go with Dr. Huxtable. He was always around and he always offered great advice. They kids always drove him nuts as well which I thought was pretty realistic.

  12. Christy

Jim from 90210. Imagine having all those crazy teens rolling through your house all the time!

  13. Julie

    Eric Camden- 7th Heaven

I seriously have to look into this. we spend way too much each month for a handful of channels.

  14. Anya

    Burt Hummel on Glee.

I hope I bring up my son to be as open minded

    • Meags

No, I changed my mind. Burt Hummel from Glee. He’s exactly the kind of parent I want to be.

  15. Mary

My favourite tv/movie dad… the first who comes to mind is Bill Cosby. He’d been in my life when I was a little kid as the voice of Fat Albert and then came back as Cliff Huxtable on the Cosby Show. Like my real father, he made me laugh, he made me cry and he gave me A LOT to think about. Not to mention a love of J-E-L-L-O!

  16. Cheryl

I am a total t.v. junkie, so I have SO many dads that come to mind, but one of my favourite movie dads is: Chris Gardner (Will Smith) … he played father to his own kid in The Pursuit of Happyness 🙂 I’m also a sucker for good ol’ Clark Griswold 😉

  17. Kim

Definitely Burt Hummel. And Ward Cleaver. 🙂

  18. Jeannie

I’m going to have to go with Danny Tanner from Full House!

  19. Amanda

    Danny Tanner – Full house
Tim the Toolman from Home Improvement

  20. Beth Gallinger

Arthur Weasley (Harry Potter) is my favourite.

  21. Cat

Chris Gardner in The Pursuit of Happiness – did you see it? I loved it! Will Smith did an awesome job with the character! 🙂

  22. Jodi

I loved House of Cards! Netflix is good value for sure.

  23. Amber

Frank Gallagher from Shameless- makes me appreciate my normal father all the more lol
We’ve been cable free and loving it for over a year now- I’d love to try out a roku

  24. Lisa @BlueRaveFinn

My DVR decided to reboot itself last night which traditionally means a memory dump. Somehow it managed to redeem itself and not do that…at least for the show I was in the middle of watching! So annoying.

  25. Laura B

Heathcliff Huxtable has always been a favourite.

  26. Jeff

So many good TV dads. What about Frank Costanza. Serenity now!

  27. CW.

Favourite TV dad would probably be Al Bundy. No matter what the family did to him, no matter how they treated each other, if you messed with his family, you messed with him. People may disagree with me, but I always saw a man who, despite it all, loved his family.

  28. Abbe

Favourite television or movie Dad? Oh my, this is going to be difficult…

Can I say Dr. Grant Roberts from the old Canadian show “Danger Bay”? I loved him.

    • alexandria

I used to LOVE that show. Side note: My parents’ friend was friends with Ocean Hellman’s family, and always confused the two of us. He said we looked so much alike. (And he’d known both of us since birth! Crazy Uncle Bernie. Ha!)

  29. Cathy C

Fred Flintstone! My Hubby’s name is Dino!

    • alexandria

Man, my parents HATED that show. Hahahaa

    • alexandria

I’ve never watched any of those, so I’ll have to take your word for it. 🙂

  30. Victoria

I think Raymond from Everybody Loves Raymond was a hilarious but heartfelt dad.

Thanks for the opportunity to win such a great prize!

  31. Kat Langdon

Have to go with Steve Martin in Father of the Bride. Or possibly Robin Williams in Mrs. Doubtfire. Now I’m conflicted! 🙂

  32. Ann W

Eric Camden was probably the best example of a dad on screen. But Homer Simpson is quite entertaining.

  33. Kristi Renout

Bill Cosby was always my favourite!

  34. Lyndsay

Tony Danza. That would make me cool like Samantha.

  35. Lisa @BlueRaveFinn

Still thinking about these tv dads. I really do enjoy Kurt’s dad, Burt Hummel. From Parenthood, most of the Dads are pretty cool in their own way. Especially the one who was a contractor turned SAHD for his daughter while mom was being a busy lawyer.

  36. Andrea

I’ve always had a thing for Tim Allen so I would say Tim Taylor on Home Improvement. I also liked Dan (John Goodman) on Roseanne.

  37. Niki

Have to go w Steven Keaton from Family Ties 🙂

  38. Shannon

Totally Heathcliff Huxtible was my favourite tv Dad.

  39. Dawn

That’s a hard one. Either Bill Cosby as Mr. Huxtable or Tony Danza on Who’s the Boss. A lot of the shows I watched most didn’t feature dads, ironically!

  40. Alicia Brown

So many TV dad comments, thought I’d go with a movie dad — Marlin from Finding Nemo! <3

  41. Andrea

Thank you SO Much!!! I have sent off my email to you with all the required information. I am so excited!!!

    • alexandria

Congrats again, Andrea! You should be hearing from the PR folks soon, if you haven’t already. 🙂
