Feel Good Friday: Here’s what shakes my booty

I recently joined a gym, because it dawned on me that at 40, I’m extremely out of shape. Turns out, life doesn’t slow down at all (in fact, it’s quite the opposite — life’s been speeding by for a decade now) and if I don’t take control of my health right now, I could be in trouble later.

It’s not easy hopping on the fitness wagon. I’m overweight, out of breath and really, really fond of my couch. I can find a million excuses: no time, too tired, too expensive, blah, blah, blah. But when the investment of time, effort and money is in my life, it matters.

I suffer from something similar to plantar fasciitis, which means that every single day I’m in absolute agony. My feet collapsed when I was pregnant with my daughter, and never regained their shape. Every step I take means the bones in the tops of my feet hyper-flex and grind together. I’ve seen countless specialists, and nobody can seem to get a handle on it for me. It has really held me back from being physically active over the last nine years.

I can barely walk most days, but you know what? I do it anyhow.

Here's the workout playlist that'll shake your booty.

I motor through life with a smile on my face because the alternative is far worse. This week I’ve been laid up thanks to a back injury (I am 100% certain yoga class is going to kill me), and I’m feeling pretty pathetic about the whole thing. It feels like my body is rebelling against me, but what my body hasn’t realized yet is that I’m the one who calls the shots around here.

So I’ve rested up for a few days, and today I’ll stretch out this body, tape up these broken feet, and drag myself to the gym so I can shake my booty to my happy workout playlist.

    Love this!

I get it. I have been so so so lax lately. Ugh. I feel awful.

    Stress really takes its toll.

Why can’t I be the kind of person who runs her feelings rather than eating them? :

Great list! Maybe I just need a few new tunes…

All my life, I used various things to cope with stress… why couldn’t I just LOVE working out? Turns out, the more I do it, the more I love it. And music is a HUGE part of what keeps me going. Go easy on yourself. Stress is so difficult to handle sometimes. <3

I just started the Everheel System to treat my plantar fasciitis. They give you exercises and treatments within 5 steps, twice a day. It has helped relieved my pain and get me back to working out. You should try it!
